Wisconsin golfers who dread the annual stretch between the last tee time and the first spring thaw have a better option this year than the couch. Missing Links Driving Range, Mini Golf and Par 3 in Mequon is filling the remaining spots in its Fall Toptracer League, played in outdoor heated bays from mid-October through the week before Christmas.
The 9-week league runs from the week of October 13 through the week of December 22, with Thanksgiving week off so nobody has to choose between league night and a second helping of stuffing. Play is in two-person teams, and each team needs a partner locked in before signing up. A free sub is recommended for the inevitable week when someone's spouse remembers a prior commitment.
"Winter in Wisconsin doesn't have to mean putting the clubs away for five months," said Peter Epperson, owner of Missing Links. "The bays are heated, Toptracer gives you real feedback on every shot, and you get to play some famous courses with your buddy on a Tuesday night. It beats Netflix and leftovers."
League Schedule
Evening leagues are available Tuesday at 5:30 and 7:30 p.m., Wednesday at 7:30 p.m., and Thursday at 5:30 and 7:30 p.m. Daytime leagues run Wednesday and Thursday mornings from 9 to 11 a.m., a nice fit for retirees, shift workers, and anyone with a boss who doesn't check calendars too closely.
Cost
Evening leagues are $300 per team. Daytime leagues are $180 per team. Players buy their own range buckets each week. Cash prizes go to the top finishers.
Who Should Sign Up
Players need some golf experience, but nobody is expecting tour-level ball striking. Handicaps are adjusted after the first week to keep the competition fair across the field. Capacity is limited, and spots in the evening slots typically go first.
Toptracer technology tracks every shot in real time, showing ball speed, carry distance, launch angle and shot shape. For golfers looking to keep their swing sharp over the winter, or simply settle a season-long argument with a buddy about who actually hits it farther, it's about as close to real golf as November in southeast Wisconsin allows.

All of his life, Brian has been around the game of golf. As a youngster, Brian competed at all levels in junior and high school golf. Brian had a zero chance for a college golf scholarship, so he worked on the grounds crew at West Bend Country Club to pay for his University of Wisconsin education. In his adult years, his passion for the game collided with his entrepreneurial spirit and in 2004 launched GolfWisconsin.com. In 2007, the idea for a network of local golf directory sites formed and GolfTrips.com was born. Today, the network consists of a site in all 50 states supported by national sites like GolfTrips.com, GolfGuide.com and GolfPackages.com. It is an understatement to say, Brian is passionate about promoting golf and golf travel on a local, regional, national and international level.
On the golf course, Brian is known as a fierce weekend warrior that fluctuates between a 5-9 handicap. With a soft fade, known as "The Weis Slice", and booming 300+ drives, he can blast it out of bounds with the best of them.
